    Leave Fredericksburg via TX 16, pick up the three sisters in Medina, and give the day to the canyons. This is the road everyone asks about — package it as a day that actually works from town.

    • Lost Maples Country Store, Vanderpool — fuel, snacks, the pause before the hard miles
    • Bent Rim Grill / Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop, Leakey — burgers, Frito pie, bike parking
    • The Hog Pen, RM 336 — BBQ and a beer if the hours line up (Wed / Fri–Sun)

    Fuel in Medina, Leakey, and Camp Wood. Blind crests, free-range cattle, thin shoulders. The Hog Pen is not daily. This is not a wine-tasting day.

  • Enchanted Rock + Willow City Loop

    North on FM 965 to Enchanted Rock, then the Willow City Loop and home via FM 1323 or TX 16. The drive you can do after coffee and still make dinner in town.

    • Breakfast in Fredericksburg before you roll — spin the Restaurant Finder
    • Enchanted Rock State Natural Area — stretch, granite, photos
    • Back on Main for lunch, or push north to Cooper's in Llano if you want BBQ as the destination

    Spring wildflower weekends turn Willow City into a parking lot. Private ranch land — stay on the pavement. Cattle, cattle guards, and low-water crossings.

  • Llano BBQ Run

    A Hill Country plate worth the tank of gas. Take TX 16 or peel onto Willow City, land in Llano for Cooper's, and roll home before dark.

    Cooper's lines on weekends. Leave early or eat a late lunch. Confirm hours before you commit the whole day to brisket.

  • Medina Apple Country + 337 Warm-Up

    ~140 mi · Full day, easier pace · Warm-up technical · Difficulty 3 / 5

    TX 16 to Kerrville, then Medina for Love Creek / the Apple Store. Continue onto RM 337 toward Vanderpool if the group is up for it — turn around if they are not.

    • Love Creek Orchards / The Apple Store, Medina — pie and cider
    • Lost Maples Country Store if you continue west
    • Kerrville on the way home for a sit-down if the orchard is slammed

    Orchard hours and seasonal fruit. RM 337 west of Vanderpool ramps up fast. Confirm the Apple Store is open before you sell the day as a pie run.

  • Luckenbach Backroads Afternoon

    ~40–60 mi · Half day · Easy cruise · Difficulty 1 / 5

    South and southeast farm roads to Luckenbach, home on backroads instead of 290. Proves the finder can do more than canyon-carving.

    • Luckenbach Texas — the postcard stop, not the technical one
    • Friday–Sunday: Black Board Bar B Q is 15 minutes south on 1376 if you want lunch before the postcard
    • Spin the Bar Finder for a brewery or beer garden once you are back

    Weekend tour-bus energy at Luckenbach. Go early or on a weekday. Black Board in Sisterdale is Friday–Sunday only.

  • Luckenbach to Blanco BBQ

    ~80–100 mi · Half day · Scenic backroads · Difficulty 2 / 5

    South to Luckenbach for the glance, then RM 1888 — River Road — the 16 miles of sweepers that motorcycle and sports-car people already know. Land on the Blanco square at Old 300 BBQ. Redbud Cafe is next door if the table wants a Reuben instead. Come home on RM 1623 along the Blanco River through Stonewall, then RM 2721 into Fredericksburg. That return is the point. Do not bail onto 290.

    • Luckenbach — the postcard pause, then keep rolling. Lunch is in Blanco
    • Old 300 BBQ, 318 4th St — brisket on the courthouse square. Open daily; Sunday closes at 3
    • Redbud Cafe on the square — the Reuben if the group is not in a BBQ mood

    Sunday Old 300 closes at 3. Weekend Luckenbach tour buses — go through early. RM 1888 is quiet ranch road, not a canyon. The 1623 / 2721 return skips the 290 wine trail; do not cheat it.

  • Pedernales River Cruise

    East toward Stonewall, peel onto Ranch Road 1 along the Pedernales, through LBJ country and Hye. A scenic loop for mixed groups who will not enjoy Twisted Sisters.

    • LBJ State Park & Historic Site — stretch and a view
    • Hye — a quick stop, then decide if you want wine-trail traffic or backroads home
    • Dinner back in Fredericksburg from the Restaurant Finder

    290 wine-trail congestion on Saturdays. Ranch Road 1 is the point; 290 is the compromise.

  • Hunt + Guadalupe River Cruise

    ~90–110 mi · Half day · River cruise · Difficulty 1 / 5

    West out of Kerrville on the Guadalupe to Ingram and Hunt — camps, cypress, and a road that follows the water. Turn around at Hunt and come home on 27 through Center Point and Comfort, then RM 473 into Sisterdale for Black Board Bar B Q. That is the lunch, and it is worth timing the river for. Backroads into Fredericksburg after. Luckenbach is a glance on 1376 if you still want it.

    • Hunt Store / the river pull-off — the turnaround, not a lunch destination
    • Black Board Bar B Q, Sisterdale — craft brisket on the way home. One of the best plates in the Hill Country
    • Backroads into FBG on 1376 — Luckenbach is optional if you still have daylight

    Black Board is Friday–Sunday for BBQ (Thursday is burger night). Closed Monday–Wednesday. Confirm hours; they sell out. Summer camp and tube traffic on 39. Crider's is evening / seasonal, not midday. Do not drop onto RM 1340 unless you want low-water crossings.

  • Kerrville to Bandera on 16

    ~110–130 mi · Half to full day · Sweepers · Difficulty 3 / 5

    TX 16 south through Kerrville and Medina is the Hill Country 16 — sweepers, river crossings, ranch country — not the connector back to town. Land in Bandera, the Cowboy Capital, for lunch. Come home on 173 past Camp Verde so you are not retracing the same pavement. Skip the long orchard stop; that is the Medina pie day.

    • Medina — fuel and a wave at the Apple Store, then keep rolling
    • O.S.T. Restaurant, Bandera — diner plates in the Cowboy Capital (check hours; Tue/Wed close early)
    • Camp Verde General Store on 173 — the historic pause on the way home

    Bandera weekends are cowboy-tourism busy. O.S.T. is not a late lunch on Tuesday or Wednesday. 16 has blind curves and ranch traffic. Do not turn this into the 337 / Lost Maples day.

  • Lost Maples Fall Color

    When the bigtooth maples turn, this becomes the Hill Country drive people plan weekends around. Same corridor as the sisters, different reason to go — color, not curves.

    • Lost Maples State Natural Area — the color is the destination
    • Lost Maples Country Store — fuel and a pause
    • Medina pie on the way out or back

    Peak color weekends fill the park and the road. Check foliage reports. Summer heat makes this a dawn start for motorcycles.
